JES Batch Class Monitor

The JES Batch Class Monitor screen provides a graphical representation of the batch job classes for all systems using the checkpoint dataset.

Note: This screen displays real-time data (if you accessed it through option =1.S.2) or history data (if you accessed it through option =1.S.6). The Type field indicates which type of data (CURRENT for real-time or HIST for history) is being displayed.

The screens displayed for both real-time and history data are identical in look and navigational flow. However, if history data is being displayed, History is displayed in the title along with the start date and time of the current time interval found in the LFS file.

This screen shows the total number of jobs that are currently executing and the total number of jobs that are currently queued, and identifies the reason for the job queues (that is, class held, class limit, scheduling environment, security label, system affinity, and so on).

Use the LEFT and RIGHT commands or cursor-select the left and right scroll arrows (< and >) to access all the information displayed on this screen.

Description

HISTORY

Switch to History mode. Displays the JES Batch Class History screen. Data will be displayed for the most recent data collection interval stored on the TMON for z/OS LFS files. When you are done viewing the history data, either enter the END command or press PF3 to return to current mode.
Note: History mode can only be entered when viewing data from the local system. History mode is not supported when viewing data from a remote system.

You also can cursor-select the HIST field or enter H in the Type field to perform this function.

Fields

The < > n, (filter area), FA=, LINES: nnnnn TO nnnnn OF nnnnn, SEQ, and SORT COL fields are GRF fields and are described in GRF Screens.

Field

Description

CKPT1

Displays either the dataset or structure name of the primary checkpoint dataset.

HIST

Cursor-select this field to display the JES Batch Class History screen, which shows historical JES resource information. Data will be displayed for the most recent data collection interval stored on the TMON for z/OS LFS files. When you are done viewing the history data, either enter the END command or press PF3 to return to real-time data.

Note: History mode can only be entered when viewing data from the local system. History mode is not supported when viewing data from a remote system.

Job Class

Displays the job class or *all* (for all job classes).

Cursor-select this field to display the JES Spool Usage Monitor screen, which shows the batch jobs queued to and executing in the job class.

Jobs Executing

Shows a graphical display of the number of jobs executing in the job class.

Jobs Queued

Shows a graphical display of the total number of jobs queued in the job class.

Queued Dup

Displays the number of jobs queued in the job class due to duplicate jobnames.

Queued Hold

Displays the number of jobs queued in the job class with TYPRUN=HOLD that have not been released for execution.

Queued Ready

Displays the number of jobs queued in the job class that are ready to execute but are waiting. Possible causes of the wait are no initiator, no scheduling environment, no security label, and held job class.

Ready Cls Hld

Displays the number of jobs in this job class that are ready for execution but are queued because the job class is being held.

Ready Cls Lim

Displays the number of jobs in this job class that are ready for execution but are queued because the number of jobs executing in the job class has reached the class execution limit.

Ready Dev Bsy

Displays the number of jobs in this job class that are ready for execution but are queued because they are busy on a device (example, an offload transmitter).

Ready No Sys

Displays the number of jobs in this job class that are ready for execution but are queued because no systems are available that match the job’s resource requirements.

Ready Sch Env

Displays the number of jobs in this job class that are ready for execution but are queued because the job’s scheduling environment is not available on any system.

Ready SECLABEL

Displays the number of jobs in this job class that are ready for execution but are queued because the job’s security label has not been defined as active.

Ready Spool NA

Displays the number of jobs in this job class that are ready for execution but are queued because at least one spool volume that the job needs is halting or has been halted.

Ready Sys Aff

Displays the number of jobs in the job class that are ready for execution but are queued because the job’s system affinity specifies an inactive system.

Scale

Specifies the scale you want to use in the graphical representation of the Jobs Executing and Jobs Queued fields.

Start

Displays the start date and time of the measurement interval, in YYYY/MM/DD-HH:MM:SS format.

If you are displaying history data, you can overtype the date and time to view data from a different measurement interval.

Type

Indicates the type of data displayed on the screen:

  • Current —indicates real-time data. A new interval is started each time the screen is refreshed.

    If you are in current mode, you can enter H in this field to change to history mode.

  • HIST—indicates history data. History mode can only be entered when viewing data from the local system. History mode is not supported when viewing data from a remote system.

    If you switched from current mode to history mode, either enter the END command or press PF3 to return to current mode.
